Show and Tell 1

Show and tell

It’s no secret that I love beautiful ‘things’ {just check out my ‘Love Want Need’ posts}. I mean who doesn’t right!

And like many of us, I do have lots of ‘things’. Clothing things, shoe things, jewellery things, trinket things and a truck load of tea cup things. But something I love more than just things… are when these ‘things’ have a story behind them. A personal story, an historic story, a happy story, or even a sad story. I just love a damn good story!

Miss 5 has show and tell once a week at school and as we’ve been helping her plan what she shares every week, it’s taken me right back to my school days and it’s got me thinking… Why don’t grown ups do show and tell? We all live diverse, interesting lives and I’m sure we all have fascinating ‘things’ and stories to share, so why not start a Show and Tell series, for adults, right here on the blog! {Not to be confused with the blog Show and Tell. Those ladies are all kinds of awesome and you should totally check them out.}

According to wiki, the definition of Show and Tell is:

a common expression about showing an audience something and telling them about it. It is a common classroom activity at early elementary school. For example, a child will bring an item from home and will explain to the class why they chose that particular item, where they got it, and other relevant information.

From time to time, I’ll share some of my ‘things’ for Show and Tell, but let’s face it, that could get boring pretty quickly, so I’ll also regularly invite others to share their stories too. It’s all a bit of fun and hey, you might even learn something new!

So, whether it’s an object, a piece of jewellery, a letter, a song, a book, a tattoo, something hand made, a special gift, a person or even a pet… there are personal stories just waiting to be uncovered and I look forward to sharing them right here!

So with that in mind, let’s start telling stories… I’ll go first!

Show and Tell #1

Name:

Shannon

Tell us a bit about yourself:

Happy wife | Proud mum | Animal lover | Blogger | Marketer | Yogi | Loves the simple and beautiful things in life.

I’m a country girl in a city world! Born and raised in coastal South Australia, I moved to the big smoke {Adelaide} to study Marketing. After graduating, I spent a year in the USA, travelling and working at a summer camp teaching sailing and kayaking. On my return to Australia, I moved to Sydney, got a job, met my now hubby and have called Sydney home for 14 years, working in marketing, sponsorship and media roles in the Corporate world. These days I work part time, spending as much time as I can with my2morrows {my 2 kiddies}, drinking tea and blogging about Kid stuff, life stuff, my ‘Love Want Need’ lists, music and travel.

Show & Tell Item:

Brazillian wooden carved hand, purchased at the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain in Rio, Brazil.

Good Luck Hand

What’s the story?:

The show and Tell item is related to our engagement story, which I blogged about a couple of weeks ago. You can read about that here.

Not long after C proposed, we popped into the little souvenir shop at the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain in Rio. I tend to pick up a little something from most places we visit, to help capture the memories. I had seen these wooden carved hands everywhere around the city of Rio and was quite intrigued, so that day I’d asked a local at the markets what they were and what they symbolised, and was told that it’s a Brazillian symbol for good luck, similar to what crossing fingers means to us. It’s also linked to passion and fertility.

A fitting souvenir to bring home that perfectly symbolised everything that an engagement promises for the future.

It now sits on my dressing table and I look at it regularly and smile, remembering that special moment in our lives, on top of ‘our’ mountain.

Engaged!

Engaged!

Love Want Need 8

Another week gone by. Can you feel the change in season? As much as I love summer, I’m loving the cooler sleeping temps lately.

And with a change in season comes the wardrobe re-shuffle. Time to dig out the warmer knits, closed toe shoes and depending which part of the country you live in, maybe even the uggies!

And of course, Autumn means its officially boot season. I’m loving all things grey at the moment so you’ll notice a bit of a grey theme in this week’s ‘Love Want Need’ list and one of the items below may have even made it off the ‘Love Want Need’ list and into the shopping cart. Can you guess which one? Gosh I hope the huz isn’t reading this!

LWN 8

1. Witchery Sleevless Longline Vest $149.95
I’m yet to master the art of layering but this would be perfect Autumn/Winter layering.

2. Mimco Savanna Bucket Bag $299 On Sale (was $550)
Love the textural weave and bohemian feel of this baby. And it’s on sale!

3. Slip Pillowcase $79.95
Sleep on silk and you’ll never go back to anything else. Anti aging, anti sleep crease, anti bed head and pure silk! Makes a great gift!

4. Country Road Sabine Ankle boot $199
A bff for your skinny jeans! And grey… its definitely love!

5. Anthropologie Losin Elephant Tea Pot $48 (USD)
Be still my beating heart. The only reason I have not added this to cart is that my husband would divorce me if I brought another tea pot home. Loving this hard though!

6. Swathi Long Punjammies $52.50
I love a beautiful product with a social cause. Buying a pair of these punjammies helps to create pathways to freedom for women escaping sex slavery to achieve lives of hope and dignity.

What are you loving, wanting, needing lately?

Love Want Need 6

Hi Everyone,

Umm, where has January gone?!

Christmas seems like a distant memory and we’re almost into February already!

Its back to the rat race for me this week after 3 blissful weeks off. Its going to be tough, but in a way I’m looking forward to getting into a regular routine again, eating properly and getting the year under-way.

In the meantime, there’s so much gorgeousness finding it’s way to me lately and begging to be shared. So here it is… the first ‘Love Want Need’ post of 2015.

Love Want Need 6

1. Anthropologie A real hoot canister

I love Anthropologie homewares and this wise guy is just too adorable.

2. Moeloco Flip Flops

Moeloco flip flops are a new inspiring social cause product designed with inspirational messages both on the front and through its relief etched sole. This means that you leave a footprint of positive words {such as love, happiness, peace} whenever you walk in the sand. How awesome is that! There are currently four designs, Live Love, Be Happy, I am peace and Dream Crazy.

With the purchase of every Moeloco, a pair of shoes is donated to orphans living in poverty. Purchase via www.moeloco.com or refer to website for selected retail stockists. Which design would you choose?

3. Bohemian Traders Dreamer Dress

This was my Chrissy day frock of choice in blue. Flowy with plenty of room to hide the Christmas Turkey. Black is next on my wishlist, because this is one frock you really do need in every colour. For some gorgeous styling ideas, see this post from Nikki at Styling You. Its such a versatile style.

4. Seafolly Illusion Pant

My love of Pineapples is at an all time high. I have pineapple lamps, a pineapple tank, pineapple pants, a pineapple candle, a pineapple pen holder, a pineapple pen, a pineapple Christmas tree ornament, a pineapple print and I almost bought pineapple draw knobs the other day before deciding they were just not practical at all. Then my friend Jo showed me these pants and I’ve been holding myself back. A gal can never have too many pineapples!

5.  Witchery Print Wrap Halter Dress

My huz picked this dress out all by himself for my Christmas pressie. He NEVER picks out clothing for me. Didn’t he do well!

6. Sportsgirl Gym Towel

This clever towel is the perfect size for the gym and includes a zip pocket big enough for your membership card, house key and $5 note for that cheeky coffee after your workout.

Be sure to tell me in the comments below what you’re Loving, Wanting, Needing lately.

Love Want Need 5

Wow. What a week!

I had my last work trip of the year and can now focus on getting into festive mode. The tree will be going up this week end, Michael Buble will be on high rotation and the Huz will be putting the finishing touches on the roof lights. Yay!

Amongst the chaos of this week I’ve managed to still spot some gorgeous bits and pieces for the Love Want Need list that are so awesome they just need to be shared, so here they are…

Love Want Need 5

1. Handcrafted reclaimed timber toddler chair from Down That Little Lane. $95.
This would be uber cute in the kids cubby house!

2. Scatter Love Post Cards from Emma Kate Co. and Fat Mum Slim $20.
Super excited to rekindle the old school way of sending love. I think I might frame the pineapples and watermelons! So much gorgeousness!

3. Christmas Homemade Gifts ebook $7.99.
The talented duo, Lucy from Bake Play Smile And Lauren from Create Bake Make have collaborated and released this amazing ebook with a collection of 16 classic Christmas Favourites. The perfect gift for friends, family and teachers and 100% of all November sales go to Ovarian cancer Australia and the Mater Little Miracles so get in quick!

Be sure to follow both their blogs and catch them on Facebook for more mouth watering deliciousness!

4. Olympus OM-D EM10
I first discovered this baby via Chantelle at Fat Mum Slim and entered to win one. We have been wanting to upgrade for ages and get a ‘real’ camera. I didn’t win unfortunately but I did get to play with Sammy’s from The Annoyed Thyroid at high tea a few weeks back and I fell in love. It had me at built in wifi. It’s on the Christmas list! Maybe a pressie for the whole family? Please Santa??!

5. Adore Tea Ballet of Flowers – Flower Ball “Hua Shang Ba Lie”. 4 pack $14.50.
I picked these up on a quick visit to Canberra recently but you can also buy them online. Quite possibly the prettiest tea I’ve ever had. You watch as the hand rolled leaves unfurl to reveal an exquisite bouquet of jasmine flowers, pink globe amaranth and yellow chrysanthemum. Calm in a cup!

6. Tassel Pom Pom Necklaces from Archery Collections $46
Did you Spot these in Scatter Love postcards pic above? I LOVE tassels and pom-poms so I had to give these their own mention. Super cool and handmade! You know how much I love gorgeous handmade things!

So tell me… what are you loving, wanting, needing lately?
