The Stay-Cation

The Staycation

Remember when you were a kid and the most vivid summer memories were always about simple fun under the Australian sun with your best friends and your family? {With Fluro zinc cream on your nose}

I’m talking bright blue skies, hot hot days, ice blocks melting faster than you can eat them, slip n slide with detergent for extra speed, Bbq’s, the sound of neighbours kids playing, cicadas providing your summer soundtrack, sand castles, jumping over waves, and riding your new bike on Christmas morning.

Sun, sand, salt and surf. Friends, fun and family. These were the ingredients to our stay-cation and it was bliss. It was one of the best holidays we’ve had and we didn’t even need a suitcase or a passport.

Boogie board over one shoulder, towel over the other. Bucket and spade in one hand, child’s tiny hand in the other. A visit from Pa who lives interstate. We bought furniture and we de-cluttered. Room by room, cupboard by cupboard. I donated 6 bags of clothing! And another 4 bags of baby things.

Maybe this is why our stay-cation was so good. We got a holiday AND we got super organised ready for whatever 2015 will throw at us.

The Huz had a list of household handy jobs that could all be completed with a cordless drill, a phillips head screw driver, a lawn mower, an Ikea provided allen key, a can of Wd40 and a bottle of weed killer.

Side note… I don’t recommend visiting Ikea with two kids under five after four hours at the aquatic centre. It looks like this…

Ikea

After the events of last year {both on a personal and global scale} all we wanted to do was be close to home with those we love and our stay-cation was a reminder that it really is all about the simple things.

And you know you’ve had a good break when you are actually ok at the thought of going back to the rat race and getting back into some sort of routine. I think the key to this is the magic three weeks. Two weeks is just not quite enough. Three is just perfect. But of course I’d take more if I could!

So here’s our perfect Aussie summer in pictures.

Christmas went something like this…

I Heart Music: Aussie Aussie Aussie Playlist

Aussie Aussie Aussie Playlist

G’Day G’day,

Happy Australia Day!

I hope all you Happy Little Vegemites are enjoying your long weekend!

Inspired by the lovely Astrid at Adore Re Mi who put together this cracking Aussie playlist and Australia Day party ideas post, I thought I’d share my fave Aussie tunes.

I’ve always been a huge fan and supporter of Australian music. It’s been the soundtrack to my teens, 20’s and 30’s and this playlist includes 78 tracks –  The Aussie classics, the new and everything in between.

I’ve tried to keep it to one song per artist, which was so hard but it would be such a long list if I included everything. But do let me know if you think I’m missing something and I’ll add it in.

Whatever your plans for the day, I hope it involves fun, family, friends, a few snags on the barbie… and music!

We’ll be spending the day with friends, listening to the hottest 100, hoping the sun shines so we can get the slip n slide out. I’ll probably even skip the wine and have a beer or two. Oz as!!

Now for the music…

Enjoy the day… its a while until our next public holiday!

Love Want Need 6

Hi Everyone,

Umm, where has January gone?!

Christmas seems like a distant memory and we’re almost into February already!

Its back to the rat race for me this week after 3 blissful weeks off. Its going to be tough, but in a way I’m looking forward to getting into a regular routine again, eating properly and getting the year under-way.

In the meantime, there’s so much gorgeousness finding it’s way to me lately and begging to be shared. So here it is… the first ‘Love Want Need’ post of 2015.

Love Want Need 6

1. Anthropologie A real hoot canister

I love Anthropologie homewares and this wise guy is just too adorable.

2. Moeloco Flip Flops

Moeloco flip flops are a new inspiring social cause product designed with inspirational messages both on the front and through its relief etched sole. This means that you leave a footprint of positive words {such as love, happiness, peace} whenever you walk in the sand. How awesome is that! There are currently four designs, Live Love, Be Happy, I am peace and Dream Crazy.

With the purchase of every Moeloco, a pair of shoes is donated to orphans living in poverty. Purchase via www.moeloco.com or refer to website for selected retail stockists. Which design would you choose?

3. Bohemian Traders Dreamer Dress

This was my Chrissy day frock of choice in blue. Flowy with plenty of room to hide the Christmas Turkey. Black is next on my wishlist, because this is one frock you really do need in every colour. For some gorgeous styling ideas, see this post from Nikki at Styling You. Its such a versatile style.

4. Seafolly Illusion Pant

My love of Pineapples is at an all time high. I have pineapple lamps, a pineapple tank, pineapple pants, a pineapple candle, a pineapple pen holder, a pineapple pen, a pineapple Christmas tree ornament, a pineapple print and I almost bought pineapple draw knobs the other day before deciding they were just not practical at all. Then my friend Jo showed me these pants and I’ve been holding myself back. A gal can never have too many pineapples!

5.  Witchery Print Wrap Halter Dress

My huz picked this dress out all by himself for my Christmas pressie. He NEVER picks out clothing for me. Didn’t he do well!

6. Sportsgirl Gym Towel

This clever towel is the perfect size for the gym and includes a zip pocket big enough for your membership card, house key and $5 note for that cheeky coffee after your workout.

Be sure to tell me in the comments below what you’re Loving, Wanting, Needing lately.

Guest Post: Astrid from Adore Re Mi

Hello Hello,

Happy New Year! A bit late I know…  but I hope the start to your 2015 has been fabulous. I have a good feeling about this year already!

I had a great Chrissy and New Years here at home in Sydney and are completely sold on The Staycation! {more to come on that in the way of a blog post}. But for now, I thought I’d kick start the year with a guest post and introduce you to the lovely Astrid from Adore Re Mi.

I met Astrid last year during Clever Cookie School Of Blog. Soon after we met IRL {that’s in real life in blog speak} and have continued to inspire each other in blog land. She’s super lovely, a happy snapper, Tim Tam cruncher, music lover, creative maker and Latina mother from down under.

Her blog is full of visual and creative ideas to inspire you via home and the heart. And of course music! Her Flashback Friday‘s posts are my faves!

Because she’s so awesome, Astrid will be featured here from time to time, so let’s get to know her a little better.

Astrid from Adore Re Mi

1) What inspires you to blog?

As mums we easily lose our identity with the little time we have for ourselves. I wanted to keep my creativity going and with the birth of my daughter, I didn’t want to lose that part of me cause I would go ’loco’.

These days there is so much to learn about blogging and I enjoy it while being creative and meeting new bloggers along the way has been great!

2) Greatest Achievement?

(Chest puffed out) Besides being a mum; winning a painting competition run by Red Cross when I was 12 years old. Even got a feature in the local newspaper, that’s huge when your 12! Laughing now.

3) Favourite post by another blogger?

Shocking reaction to toddler on leash – The Thud

This post was aired on radio ABC 702. Fascinating to hear what Lauren had to say and the feedback on her post. Also she is damn funny!

4) Favourite holiday?

I love Hawaii! I’ve been 3 times and I will go back again. Love the culture, shopping and cocktails!

5) What would you tell your 16 year old self?

Stop worrying about what others think of you. Let’s deal with your social anxiety; and learn computer and business or graphic design, you will thank me later.

6) Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

Finally living in our own home with lots of posts on renovation and refurbishment and most importantly, watching my kids play with the family dog in our backyard.

7) Describe your style in a few words.

My style depends on my mood. It’s edgy, minimalist, relaxed and even experimental (or schizophrenic?)

8) Favourite album?

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. I saw them live in concert and they are still incrediable.

9) Finish this sentence. This year…

… will be an exciting year introducing my 4 year old to her new baby brother/sister this April and her new cousin late January! 2015 will be a family year for me and my friends. I’m super excited!

Thanks Astrid for visiting! I can’t wait to share more from you soon!
